Keep Aiming

Life is crazy. Balancing school and a social life is a constant battle, especially as college students. I was talking to some friends earlier about the next few weeks and how they are bringing an insane amount of stress upon everyone, as the semester comes to a slow, painful close.

Some of us are treading water, just trying to stay afloat and keep our heads above, before the impact hits, bringing waves of anxiety and fear about registration, finals, and everything else.

Others are just past that. We were treading water last week and now we are holding our breath, about to go underwater for the next 4-7 days, cranking out papers and assignments, while continuing to do a good job at work and keep in touch with loved ones. It’s times like these when thinking of the reward to come is the only hope. Eyes on the prize, right?

That’s where I have been today. Under water. Holding my breath..just waiting for this week to be over. In this moment, I am being reminded of how useless it is to think this way. Looking at my to-do list a few hours ago would have resulted in an involuntary gag reflex of some sort..but now, it’s as if God just came and sat next to me on the couch and said..

Yeah, this week sucks and you have a lot to do, but you can’t hold your breath forever. So, buckle down. Get stuff done. But don’t forget to come up for air.

So that’s what this is…me coming up for air.

I’ve allowed myself to watch a few inspiring short films, read a few bible verses, and write a blog post in an attempt to cure writer’s block by reminding myself that I am, in fact, capable of formulating sentences on paper.

Now, with a hot cup of cider and a fresh perspective, I will conquer this to-do list.

This time next week, I’ll be emerging from the water, flipping my hair back like Ariel.
